Teotihuacan and the Fluctuations of Mesoamerican Economy
Pascual Izquierdo-Egea: Teotihuacan y las fluctuaciones de la economía mesoamericana. Arqueología Iberoamericana 47 (2021): 161–174. Abstract: This paper presents the first results of the analysis of the mortuary record of Teotihuacan following the guidelines of the archaeology of social phenomena (or archaeonomy). The results shed light on the fluctuations of the Mesoamerican economy during the Early Classic and help to decode what really happened within that great pre-Hispanic State; for example, clarifying how the military expansion towards the Maya area took place or how the Teotihuacan collapse occurred. This is possible due to the quantification of a series of fundamental social parameters, which allow us to understand not only the evolution of this ancient New World civilization but also the dynamics of Mesoamerica in this time.
